Form: Performance Poetry

Poet/Artist I am Researching: Patricia Smith

Format I will be using: Co-Host Podcast: holding a conversation

Resources I have found so far:

  1. Construction of Identity Through Performance Poetry

https://ila.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/JAAL.00083

2. The Cultural Politics of Slam Poetry: Race, Identity and the Performance

https://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=7vwATBOcXQoC&oi=fnd&pg=PA1&dq=performance+poetry+research&ots=KWIfeec-tq&sig=Fnh26wjcJO5f8WmKyHZxEGqRqAo#v=onepage&q=performance%20poetry%20research&f=false

My Guiding Questions: How does the way a poem is performed set both the tone and moos for the author’s writing? With the way a poem is performed, what literary devices help organize a clear performance for the audience?

What I want my podcast to teach my audience: I want my radio show to teach people how performance poetry is not only a performance for the artist but rather a personal experience for the audience. I also would like to show my viewers how in some ways performance poetry is more powerful than music.
